How to Create an Email Alias

What is an email alias?
An email alias is an alternative email address that forwards messages to your primary email inbox without creating a separate account. It allows you to receive emails sent to different addresses while managing them from a single mailbox.

Setting up an email alias.
Setting up an email alias depends on your email provider. Here’s how you can do it for some popular providers:
Gmail (Google Workspace & Personal Accounts)
  1. For Personal Gmail Accounts
    • Gmail doesn’t allow true aliases, but you can use plus addressing (e.g., [email protected]).
    • You can also set up "Send Mail As"for another email you own:
      1. Go to Settings (gear icon) > See all settings.
      2. Click on the Accounts and Import tab.
      3. Under "Send mail as", click Add another email address.
      4. Enter the alias and verify it.
  2. For Google Workspace (G Suite)
    • Admins can create aliases via the Google Admin Console:
      1. Go to admin.google.com.
      2. Navigate to Users > Select a user.
      3. Click Add alternate emails (email alias) under the user’s details.
      4. Enter the alias and save changes.
Outlook (Microsoft 365 & Outlook.com)
  1. For Outlook.com (Personal)
    • Go to Microsoft Alias Settings.
    • Click Add email and follow the prompts.
    • You can send emails from the alias via Outlook settings.
  2. For Microsoft 365 (Business)
    • Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center (admin.microsoft.com).
